PMLS History of Medical Technology in Global Context Practice Test

Harmonization and standardization of laboratory tests across the world rely on a dedicated international federation for clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. This organization—International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine—focuses on developing and promoting reference materials, standardized methods, and quality guidelines so that test results are comparable and reliable no matter where a test is performed. While World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control are major public health bodies with broad missions, they aren’t the global federation specifically coordinating standardization in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. Another organization with a similar-sounding name exists, but it doesn’t carry the same international mandate for this field as the IFCC. So, the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, abbreviated IFCC, is the correct choice.
